Plasmon Introduces New Raid Subsystem

Plasmon Introduces New Raid Subsystem

PC components Aug 19,2005 0

A low-cost Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) solution for mid-sized and departmental business applications. The new Raidtec FS3102 RAID subsystem has been introduced by Plasmon (LSE:PLM), a professional data storage solutions company.

The system is reported to use FS RAID controller technology from Plasmon to integrate 2Gbit Fibre Channel host interface performance with Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives. It provides a 370MB/s maximum data transfer in a 2U, 12 bay enclosure, with up to 4.8TM total storage capacity. The FS3102 is claimed to offer a fully configured, out-of-the-box RAID solution providing a Raidtec Manager interface for remote configuration, management and monitoring of the subsystem(s).

According to Raidtec Solutions, the use of Raidtec's own Fibre Channel controller technology, along with the selected SATA disk drives, has enabled access to SAN technology by smaller organisations and departmental applications. The subsystem is said to provide a cost effective, flexible solution suitable for storage consolidation and expansion in a SAN infrastructure.
