AMD to ship 65-nm in Q4, Eckstein says
AMD is on track with the ramp-up of its 65-nm manufacturing process. First market shipments of 65-nm processors are scheduled for Q4, said AMD Corporate Vice President Elke Eckstein.
In a presentation at the Handelsblatt congress on semiconductor technology here, Eckstein said full conversion to 65-nm technology is expected by mid-2007 with crossover from present 90-nm technology in Q1, 2007.
Also, the 45-nm development AMD is conducting along with IBM and other partners is on track for introduction in mid-2008, Eckstein said. Already under development is the next but one generation, with geometries of 32-nm. In addition, research for 22-nm technology is already under way. Involved in the research and development of these manufacturing process are besides AMD's research department in Sunnyvale also IBM and the Center for Nanotechnology (CNT) that AMD runs together with Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in Dresden.
