8-core or quad-core Mac Pro workstations Arrive
The latest addition to Apple's Mac Pro family is the world?s first 3.0GHz, 8-core Intel Xeon-based Mac Pro.
The 8-core Mac Pro is powered by two Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Clovertown" processors running at 3.0GHz. Apple also offers a quad-core of the Mac-Pro featuring two Dual-Core Intel Xeon "Woodcrest" processors running at 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3.0GHz. At 3.0GHz, the quad-core Mac Pro runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad, according to Apple.
Mac Pro accommodates up to four drives and 3TB of storage, offers eight DIMM slots to fill with up to 16GB of RAM, and provides up to two SuperDrives. It also gives four PCI Express slots and lots of I/O options for flexibility.
Three graphics card options allow users to choose the card that meets their specific needs. Options include the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, which comes in the standard configuration. For motion graphics, animation, digital photography, or 3D design and visualization, the faster ATI Radeon X1900 XT is Apple's proposal. In addition, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 provides a 3D stereo graphics port for stereo-in-a-window applications, making it the ideal choice for high-end scientific visualization. Each configuration allows connection of up to two displays, including at least one 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display.
