Serial Port Memory Technology Consortium Releases New Technology Specification
SPMT, LLC, the entity responsible for licensing the Serial Port Memory Technology (SPMT) specification and administering the SPMT Consortium, announced the release of the SPMT specification.
The specification is available to SPMT members and can be accessed at http://www.spmt.org.
SPMT is the first-of-its-kind memory specification for dynamic random access memory (DRAM) based on a serial interface rather than the standard parallel interface. The technology initially targets the mobile handset market, enabling a new generation of devices capable of running highly data intensive, media-rich applications while at the same time extending battery life.
"The availability of the SPMT specification marks the beginning of a new era in general purpose memory technology for the mobile market," said Jim Venable, president of SPMT, LLC. "The technology defined in the specification represents a huge leap forward in providing a low cost, high bandwidth and low power solution for the rapidly evolving mobile market enabling a whole new generation of products."
