Seagate's 4TB Desktop HDD Now Available
Seagate today has made available its 4TB Desktop HDD 3.5-inch internal hard drive that offers capacity and performance at a lower cost.
Seagate claims that the new drive is is the first that uses the 1TB-per-platter design, meaning that the HDD comes with four platters each offering 1TB of storage space.
The new HDD comes with 64MB of cache memory and supports the latest SATA 3 standard. It spins at 5,900rpm and consumes about 35 percent less energy than the previous 7.500rpm models. Seagate says that the drive will still offer fast performance with a sustained writing speed of about 145MBps.
The drive also comes with DiskWizard software that allows it to work with older OS, such as Windows XP. To use it as a boot drive, however, UEFI BIOS is needed. In addition, OptiCache technology and AcuTrac technologies are supported.
The new drive is designed for both desktop computers and external storage solutions and it is available now for about $190 (bare drive), which is a very competitie price.
