Dell Introduces Venue 8 3000, Venue 8 7000, and Venue 11 7000 Series Tablets, New Converged System
Dell just launched three new tablets along with the PowerEdge FX2 server at at its Dell World conference, currently taking place in Austin, Texas. First unveiled by Michael Dell at IDF last September, the ultra-thin Venue 8 7000 is just 6mm thick, weighs 309 gram and is equipped with with Intel's RealSense camera, which gives the slate depth perception similar to the human eye. Using the camera, the Venue 8 7000 can measure 3D images by capturing different layers. It can then determine the distance and size of a real-world object.
The Venue 8 7000 sports an 8.4-inch OLED display with a 2K (2560x1600), a micro-USB 2.0 port and front-facing speakers. The device runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Lolipop upgrade also coming and is powered by an Intel Atom Z3500 Series (Moorefield) quad-core processor paired to 2GB of RAM.
Dell did not provide pricing details.
The Dell Venue 8 3000 is an 8" slate with an IPS display with a native resolution of 1280x800. Powered by an Intel Bay Trail-based quad-core processor, the slate is backed by 1GB of RAM and 32GB of solid state storage. It also packs 802.11 b/g/n WiFi with Miracast support, BT 4.0, and 1.2MP front facing and 5MB rear facing cameras.
The Dell Venue 8 3000 runs Windows 8.1 and will be available in black or colors for $199.
The Venue 11 7000 is a larger device coming with a 10.8" IPS display with a native 1920 x 1080 resolution and support for 10-point multi-touch. Dell will offer one model featuring the Intel Core M 5Y10a (4MB L3 Cache, 2.0GHz Dual-Core) and Windows 8.1 and another with a Core M vPro 5Y70 (4MB L3 Cache, 2.6GHz Dual-Core) and Windows 8.1 Pro.
Other features include 2MP (front) and 8MP (rear) camera, Intel 7265 Dual-Band 2x2 802.11 ac WiFi (with Miracast) and Bluetooth 4.0, a Micro-SD Card Reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, supporting up to 64GB), 1 x Full size USB3.0 port, headphone/microphone jack, 1 x micro HDMI, NFC, and a Sensor Hub (Gyro, G-sensor, Proximity).

Dell?s new IT solutions include the new Dell PowerEdge FX converged architecture that provides modularity and scalability; a new Dell Storage SC4020 Entry-Level All-Flash configuration; the new Dell Storage PS4210 Series for improved application performance and connectivity options for small and mid-size deployments; and, the Dell XC Series of Web-scale Converged Appliances for integrated compute and enterprise storage.
The Dell PowerEdge FX architecture is Dell?s spproach to converged infrastructure with one common modular and scalable platform with servers, storage and networking integrated.
The PowerEdge FX architecture is a 2U enclosure with six new PowerEdge server, storage and network IOA sleds built to fit into the FX2 chassis and support varying workloads.
This converged infrastructure approach affords efficiencies of shared power, I/O and management, integrated switching, and overall density capabilities at up to 40 2-socket servers in 10U.
The PowerEdge FX architecture including PowerEdge FX2 chassis and initial sleds (FC630, FM120x4) will be available in December 2014. The FD332, FN IOA, FC430, FC830 models will be available in the first half of 2015.
The new Dell Storage SC Series all-flash array configuration will be available for $25,000 (US), offering substantial performance improvement over spinning disk solutions.
The Dell Storage PS4210 Series Arrays are available worldwide today.
For even greater performance, Dell's customers can expand to create a Flash-Optimized Solution with Dell?s intelligent data placement software to address future growth and performance needs. Both Dell SC4020 Entry-Level All-Flash and Flash-Optimized Solutions offer all-flash storage with the added benefit of further optimizing costs by adding one or more tiers of spinning disk to the same array.
The Dell Storage SC4020 Entry-Level All-Flash configuration will be available in early 2015.
Dell also today announced the Dell Storage PS4210 Series enterprise storage arrays for entry-level primary storage and critical workloads. This marks the introduction of a hybrid (flash and HDD) model to Dell?s entry-level PS Series portfolio. The PS4210 arrays are designed to be compatible and interoperable with all previous Dell EqualLogic PS Series arrays.
Dell?s latest 10GbE iSCSI arrays offer enterprise capabilities in five models that boast a more powerful controller with double the cache memory, twice the number of ports, and up to six times performance improvement with new hybrid arrays compared to previous generation arrays.
Dell also announced the worldwide availability of the Dell XC Series of Web-scale Converged Appliances, which integrates compute, storage and hypervisor resources into a single offering. The XC Series appliances, powered by Nutanix software, offers enterprise-class storage for virtualized server and VDI environments with simple deployment, management and scale as needed. The new appliances are available in five models designed to support different workloads.
The Dell XC Series will be available starting November 11 with support for VMware ESXi and Microsoft Windows Hyper-V.
