Samsung, LG Gear Up Towards CES

Samsung, LG Gear Up Towards CES

Consumer Electronics Dec 28,2014 0

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's biggest tech trade show will showcase some of the newest gadgets that tech companies are working on, including those made by LG and Samsung. As it was also the case over the past years, the CES 2015 will be focused on new TVs and home theaters .

LG plans to introduce its quantum-dot (QD) TVs at the show, which are 55-inch and 65-inch ultra high definition (UHD) televisions. The QD TV is an upgraded version of the LCD TV that uses backlight to shine through a series of shutters to create an image. Since the QD TV has better color reproduction than the current LCD TV, LG believes it could represent the middle stage between the LCD TV and the organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) TV. But still, a range of OLED TVs will be displayed at the CES.

But LG is also expected to unveil its 8K TV, which features a 55-inch display. Previous prototypes were said to have around 85- to 100-inch screens. Last September, LG showcased a 98-inch 8K UHD TV at the IFA in Berlin.

Samsung recently unveiled a new curved computer monitor ahead of the CES. The SE790C monitor features a 34-inch screen, and ultra-wide quad high definition resolution (3,440 x 1,440).

Samsung says it will also focus on QD TVs and Tizen-powered smart TVs. Tizen is a Samsung-designed OS, which powers its smartwatches, Gear 2 and Gear S.

LG may also unveil its new smartphone, G Flex 2, which features a flexible display, at the show. Will Samsung respond with the Galaxy 6 model? Possibly no, as it would be a premature move.
