Instagram Adds Real-Time Events, New Search
Instagram on Tuesday began letting users more easily track hot topics of the moment, a domain currently dominated by Twitter.
Facebook's Instagram announced two updates: a new Explore page, with trending Tags and Places, and more powerful search that makes it easier to find the people, places, and tags.
The Explore page makea discovery on Instagram immediate by surfacing trends as they emerge in real-time, connecting users to events and conversations around the globe.
Through trending Tags and trending Places, users can experience moments like #fathersday.
In addition, at the top of the Explore page there is a new curated collections that will be updated regularly, featuring interesting accounts and places, from musicians and extreme athletes to architecture and beaches.
To start, these updates to Explore will only be available in the United States.
In addition, with the new Places Search, users can now peer in at just about any location on earth, allowing them to scout out their next vacation spot in the South Pacific. The new Top Search also lets users search across people, places and tags all at once.
Instagram for iOS version 7.0 is available today in Appleās App Store, and Instagram for Android version 7.0 is available today in Google Play.
More than 70 million photos and videos are posted daily at Instagram, according to the service.
Twitter has managed to gain tremendous popularity with its service that lets people share pictures, video snippets, and comments about happenings or hot topics in real time.
