Nintendo Stops Production Of Wii U

Nintendo Stops Production Of Wii U

Gaming Nov 11,2016 0

Nintendo will soon end production of its Wii U console for the Japanese market, the company announced on Friday. The Kyoto-based company will now concentrate resources on the new portable device Nintendo Switch, which will be released in March next year.

Wii U was launched in December 2012, but sales remained low, with fewer hit game titles compared with the previous Wii console.

Once production ends, sales of the Wii U will be terminated as soon as the remaining stock is sold, according to Nintendo. Software sales and network services, as well as user support for the console, will continue.

Nintendo has shipped a total of 13.36 million Wii U consoles as of Sept. 30 this year, well below the previous model, which has sold 100 million consoles.
