Second-tier CD-R disc makers step up October price increase
The proposed increase of CD-R disc prices is taking a more definite shape in Taiwan, as two second-tier disc companies said they will match moves by major disc makers to bump up prices in October. Lead Data said it will adjust spot prices as early as next month, but intends to hold long-term contract prices for another three months. It did not give details about its new pricing plans, except to say they will be in line with those of first-tier competitors.
GigaStorage said it will raise prices by 10% in October.
Taiwan’s “big three” disc producers – Ritek, CMC Magnetics and Prodisc Technology – all announced plans this week to raise disc prices by 10-15% in October. The CD-R disc sector normally resets prices ahead of the seasonally strong fourth quarter.
