Honor Unveils the Honor V20 With Display Hole and 48-Megapixel Rear Camera

Smartphones Dec 10,2018 0

Huawei's Honor has unveiled its latest Honor V20 through its official Weibo account. The smartphone is the company's first to sport a selfie camera display hole and a 48-megapixel rear camera sensor.

It is scheduled to be released in China on December 26. In other countries, the smartphone will be called the Honor View 20, and will be officially unveiled at a January 22nd event in Paris.

According to the information that has been published in Weibo, the Honor V20 has a a 4.5mm display hole at its screen's upper left corner for the selfie camera, in a design that we will also see in the Samsung A8s model.

In addition, it is equipped with Sony's new 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor at the back, which comes with a 1/2.0-inch CMOS sensor, 4-in-1 Light Fusion, 4 times sensor HDR, and AI capabilities. The Honor V20 is powered by the latest 7nm octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC.

It is also using what Huawei calls "Link Turbo" technology, which is offering on-device AI aggregation to intelligently control the Wi-Fi and LTE data flow.

Honor claims that the V20 sports a premium design with 5-axis ring dispensing technology, 0.1mm precision assembly, and a customized camera lens.

Samsung and Sony have developed 48-megapixel sensors for smartphones. They claim that their sensors have tiny 0.8µm pixels, but the sensors themselves are physically larger than most competitors at an overall size of 1/2.0 inches. The companies both say that each individual pixel can take information from its neighbors to produce the equivalent of a 12-megapixel image captured with 1.6µm pixels.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is also set to release a 48-megapixel phone in the coming months. Lin Bin, the company’s co-founder and president, posted a picture to Weibo of an unidentified device bearing the legend “48MP camera” beside the lens.
