Apple AR Headset Coming in 2022, Glasses to Follow

Apple AR Headset Coming in 2022, Glasses to Follow

Gadgets Nov 11,2019 0

Apple has internally discussed the company's product roadmap for two augmented reality devices.

According to a report from The Information, Apple executives last month held an internal meeting at the Steve Jobs Theater, outlining the company's plan to release an augmented-reality headset in 2022 and a sleeker pair of AR glasses by 2023.

The group presentation was attended by enough employees to fill the 1,000-seat Steve Jobs Theater at Apple headquarters, suggesting Apple has a sizable team working on AR projects.

Apple Vice President Mike Rockwell, who heads the team responsible for Apple’s AR and virtual reality initiatives, led the meeting, which included new details about the design and features of the AR headset, according to the report.

Apple has been rumored to be working on an augmented reality headset or smart glasses for some time, and has used considerable resources in the field of AR and VR.

The company has been also rumored to work with Valve on an AR headset.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple aims to release a combined VR and AR headset with a focus on gaming, watching video and virtual meetings.

Engineering teams for the iPhone and iPad have begun work on connecting important applications and software features to a new operating system, dubbed “rOS” internally, that will let current devices work with the future headset and glasses.

In related news, Apple is also rumored to launch new iPad Pro in first half of 2020. The new iPad is said to feature a new module with two camera sensors, up from one on the current model, and a small hole for the 3-D system, letting people create three-dimensional reconstructions of rooms, objects and people.

The Cupertino, California-based technology giant also plans to add the sensor to new high-end iPhones later in 2020, along with 5G networking capabilities.
