AirPods Pro gain 'spatial audio' for Dolby Atmos, 7.1, 5.1 surround
Apple will release a software update for AirPods Pro to enable spatial audio for more immersive movie sound, including Dolby Atmos, 7.1 and 5.1 surround.
The company explains that it uses sensors in AirPods Pro together with sensors in handheld devices to optimize sound and ensure that it remains correctly positioned even if you move your head or the handheld screen. The goal is to imitate the immersive movie sound experience that you know from cinema or home theater speakers. Apple's system will work with Dolby Atmos as well as 7.1 and 5.1 surround sound.
During the presentation Apple illustrated the system working together with a TV screen suggesting that it may work on Apple TV, too. We are chasing more information.
Support for spatial audio will be added to AirPods Pro via a software update later this year. Specific timing was not announced.
