Alltel Wireless, in now offering the Palm Treo 700p

Smartphones Jan 26,2007 0

The 700 P will be the Flagship of the Alltel Line This is a Palm OS-based smartphone that debuted around the middle of last year. Unlike the more recent Treo 680, the 700p runs on CDMA cellular-wireless networks, such as Sprint, Verizon and Alltel's.

until now, the only U.S. carriers offering this particular Treo have been Sprint and Verizon.

Pricing and Availability

The 700p is available now through Alltel's retail stores and its web site.

Prices start at $350 after a $100 rebate. This price is available to new customers on two-year service agreements, as well as to existing customers on qualifying rate plans.

Treo 700p vs. Treo 680

Although it debuted before the Treo 680, the 700p offers features not available in the newer model, including support for 3G wireless networking (in this case Alltel's Axcess Broadband network) and a 1.3-megapixel camera.

Both devices use the same general design -- a 320-by-320-pixel screen above a miniature keyboard -- but the 700p is thicker. This, however, gives it room to hold a larger battery. On the down side, only the 700p requires a large external antenna.

Both smartphones came with Personal Information Management (PIM) applications, can read and edit Microsoft Office files, and Bluetooth.

Naturally, each comes with software for accessing the Web and exchanging email. This includes Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 ActiveSync support.
