Apple Rumored To Launch Ultra HD iTV
While the release of Apple TV remains nothing more than a rumor, new reports from Taiwan claim that the Apple's new device is actually a reality and will support Ultra HD (3840 by 2160) along with voice and motion control functions and Internet connectivity.
Digitimes.com cited sources in Taiwan supply chain to report that Apple and Foxconn Electronics have been discussing the TV's mass production schedule, but Apple has been considering where panel supply for the TV will come from. Taiwan-based Ultra HD TV panel makers are expected to produce UDTV panels at full capacity in 2013.
Other panel makers in Apple's supply chain including LG Electronics and Sharp have the ability to produce Ultra HD TV panels but are expected to allocate most of their panel production to the production of Apple's s iPhone, iPad and iPad mini products instead, the sources from Taiwan added.
In any case, LG Display seems to be the company ready to mass produce Ultra HD TV panels by the second half of the year. This would mean that Apple won't be able to deliver an UDTV iTV product before the beginning of 2014.
