Blue Laser Discs from TDK

DVD Recorders Double Layer Jul 20,2004 0

TDK has developed the next generation Blue Laser Disc recording media, delivering the highest capacity (23.3GB per disc) and fastest data transfer rates (72Mbps/Optical Head; 144Mbps/Double Optical Head) ever achieved by an optical media.

As a member of the Blu-ray Founders group, TDK is playing an instrumental role in the development of Blu-ray based technologies for a variety of consumer recording applications. TDK is the only exclusive media manufacturing company among the Blu-ray Founders Group. Other members include Dell, HP, Hitachi, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Thomson.

A unique hard coating technology is applied on TDK blue laser discs for "Professional Disc" and "Professional Disc for DATA" systems, which provides anti-scratch and anti-dust protection. The result is a revolutionary new professional recording media that offers remarkable capacity, faster data transfer, unmatched durability and total recording reliability.

Ideally suited for mission-critical professional recording applications, TDK Blue Laser Disc media will be available in two formats:

  • TDK Blue Laser Disc for "Professional Disc" Systems (designed to work with Sony's new XDCAM optical recording products)
  • TDK Blue Laser Disc for "Professional Disc for DATA" Systems (designed to work with Sony's "Professional Disc for DATA" drives, auto changer systems and other advanced optical library systems)

TDK Blu-ray media is currently sold in Japan and used primarily for recording HD programming.
