CMC's 4.7GB DVD+RW certified by Philips

General Interest Oct 21,2002 0

CMC Magnetics Corporation (CMC), one of the world's largest optical disc manufacturers, announced that CMC's DVD+RW media has been certified by Philips. CMC is the first among the Taiwanese manufacturers. DVD+RW standard is promoted and developed by the DVD+RW Alliance. The DVD+RW Alliance consist of industry-leading personal computer manufacturers, optical storage and consumer electronics manufacturers including Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG),Ricoh Company Ltd. (ADR: RICOY), Sony Corporation,Yamaha Corporation,Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP),Dell (NASDAQ: DELL), MCC/Verbatim,and Thomson Multimedia (NYSE: TMS). Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) lately shows its fully support on this standard.

DVD+RW media is rewritable for more than one thousand cycles, and can record up to 120 minutes high quality video. Moreover, the media utilizes high performance phase change materials that ensure stable recording and reliable high capacity data and video storage. The media offers true convergence between PC and CE platforms with ease of use and excellent compatibility with installed base of DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.

The DVD+RW burners burn DVD+RW discs, and all CD-R/-RW disks. Besides, the burners function as DVD-ROM drivers to read DVD-Video/ROM,and CD disks. With the strong supports from worldwide PC and electronic hardware providers, there are now more DVD+RW burners in end-users' selection list. Therefore, due to high compatibility advantage, DVD+RW could become one of the mainstream products in storage media.
