The drive is brand new and has the latest firmare installed. Lets start our tests. The advertised reading/writing speeds are around 3.4MB/sec and 3.0MB/sec respectively. At this review we will examine what users should expect from this entrty level drive.

Our first test came with the ATTO Disk Benchmark v4.00, which showed a rather strange behaviour. After somepoint the drive slowed down from 2.75GB/sec to 0.8GB/sec and after it increased again speed.

However this troubled us and we checked via HWInfo the reported temperatures of the installed drive (without any extra cooling),which showed that the drive starts idle at 58 celcious and tops around 77~105 celcious. That could be the cause of the slowdown.

A second in row test run showed slight better performance, again however the drive reported high temperatures.

In our third run, we used a passive cooling for the drive, which saved the day and gave perfect performance and temperatures

(Temperature after installing passive cooling)

As it seems the P5 series tend to run hot compared with the P2 series. For that cause, we suggest users to apply thermal cooling solution in order to get the best possible performance. Crucial commended that "....Additional cooling is always good for high-performance NVMe drives. The drive will intentionally slow throughput to help keep the drive in an optimal temperature range, specifically, below 70C, as measured internally to the SSD..."

For comparison the ATTO Disk Benchmark v2.00 gives similar results
