Crucial is among the first flash storage manufacturer that introduces a true Gen5 PCIe armed with Micron NAND and Phison onboard controller. The Crucial T700 NVME SSD series had good reading/writing performance, however didn't reached the top possible bandwitdh performance that the PCIe Gen5 slot has and for that reason, Crucial released a "minor" upgrade with firmware tweaks and higher sequential reading/writing to max out this combination (Micron NAND + Phison Controller) and released to the market the Crucial T705 series.

The new Crucial T705 series has a similar design and comes either with or without a heatsink. We feel that Gen5 PCI NVME SSDs should have air cooled cooler, so we suggest getting the barebone version and sticking an air cooled SSD cooler NVME cooler that fits your motherboard to get the maximum possible performance. Let's now come to the million-dollar question...Is the Crucial T705 series faster than the T700 series? Yes and no... The T705 series is faster than the T700 series provided that you are using higher than 128K file size files. If your workloads are small file sizes, then we feel that the T700 is still a solid NVME drive to use. The Crucial T705 series also won't slow down with very big file sizes so content creators will find two (or more) Crucial T705 NVME SSDs useful for transferring files. Keep in mind that normal Windows copying I/O still lags behind specialized software, like FastCopy which will max out writing performance.

As it currently stands, the Gen5 prices are very high and for example, the 2TB version of the Crucial T705 series costs around €543.65 vs €352.46 of the Crucial T700 series. The Crucial T500 2TB NVME (Gen4) costs around €181.90, which sounds more reasonable for most users. Concluding this review, we find the Crucial T705 series to be fast and aimed only at enthusiasts and power users who understand their use and have a real use for such increased reading/writing performance. The 2TB NVME SSD comes with 5 years of legendary Crucial warranty and 1200TBW writing endurance.
