DataPlay discs
A DataPlay disc is a tiny optical media, about the size of a quarter and can fit up to 500 MB data. It is designed to permanently record content - whether it's pre-recorded (mastered), downloaded off the Internet, or user-created. Universal DataPlay discs are capable of playing and recording multiple types of content on a single disc. DataPlay discs will be used in digital music players, electronic book readers, PDAs, digital cameras, portable games, and many other consumer electronic devices and Internet appliances.
DataPlay discs will be available at local music and bookstores with mastered (pre-recorded) content from many sources including music, book and game publishers. In addition, blank DataPlay discs will be available to record downloadable Internet-published content and for use in DataPlay-enabled devices such as digital music players, digital book readers, digital cameras and PDAs. DataPlay discs and DataPlay-enabled consumer electronics devices will be available worldwide beginning in 2001.
DataPlay's new recording media is designed to permanently record and play back digital content of all types - pre-recorded by content publishers, downloaded from the Internet or user-created. The optical media in DataPlay discs has the unique ability to be mastered or pre-recorded with molded-in data, as well as to record incrementally written data such as Web-downloadables and user-created data - all on the same disc. This dual-recording capability is called Recordable Mastered Media and it will revolutionize Web-enabled content. NULL
