Deutsche Telekom Launches Firefox OS Devices In Europe

Deutsche Telekom Launches Firefox OS Devices In Europe

Smartphones Jul 11,2013 0

At a press conference in Warsaw, Poland, today, Deutsche Telekom announced that sales of the ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Fire powered by Firefox OS will start soon in Europe. T-Mobile Poland will offer the Firefox OS-powered smartphone via its online sales channels already from tomorrow on and from July 15 in 850 shops. In Poland, the Alcatel One Touch Fire will be available starting at just 1 zloty (0.23 EUR) in combination with "a very attractive tariff," according to DT.

Market launches in additional European countries will follow in the fall. In Germany, the Firefox OS smartphone will be marketed via Deutsche Telekom's second brand congstar. The company's subsidiaries in Hungary (Magyar Telekom) and Greece (COSMOTE) will also begin sales of the ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Fire this fall.

Firefox OS uses Internet technologies to create the environment in which all applications and websites are housed: only applications written in Web languages, particularly HTML 5, are supported. These apps, like telephony, SMS and the address book, for example, come pre-installed. They can be used directly via the integrated adaptive app search or opened in the Firefox browser like websites.
