LG Begins Rollout Its 55-inch OLED TV, IPS Monitors
LG Electronics will begin accepting pre-orders for
its 55-inch class (54.6-inch diagonal) WRGB OLED TV
(Model 55EM9700) in South Korea this month with
deliveries scheduled to begin next month.
The new TV will be available in North America, Europe
and the rest of Asia before the end of March, LG said
in a statement.
More than 1,400 LG retail stores in South Korea will begin accepting orders from consumers for KRW 11 million (approximately US $10,000) TVs starting Jan. 3 with delivery to commence the first week of February.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to make this announcement at the start of the new year because we believe that OLED will usher in a whole new era of home entertainment," said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG's Home Entertainment Company. "Not since color TV was first introduced 60 years ago has there been a more transformational moment. When high definition TV was first introduced 15 years ago, the public's reaction was 'wow!' but when customers see our razor-thin OLED TV for the first time, they're left speechless. That's a clear indicator as any that OLED TV is much more than just an incremental improvement to current television technology."
Only 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) thin and weighing less than 10 kilograms (22 pounds), LG's OLED TVs promises to produce vivid and realistic pictures thanks to its WRGB technology. LG's Four-Color Pixel system features a white sub-pixel, which works in conjunction with the conventional red, blue, green setup to create the perfect color output. LG's Color Refiner delivers even greater tonal enhancement. The 55-inch OLED TV also offers an infinite contrast ratio, which maintains optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle.
While OLED panels are more widely used in mobile screens, mass producing large panels is still tough because of technological challenges.
Even though LG and Samsung touted OLEDs as the future of television, both failed to deliver them to the market in the fourth quarter of 2012 as promised due to manufacturing challenges.
LG will also have on display at CES next week a 84-inch UHD TV (3,840 x 2,160 resolution, model:84LM9600) as well as 55- and 65-inch class (54.6- and 64.7 inch diagonal respectively) models.
All three models in the Ultra HD TV series boast LG's Triple XD Engine as well as the Resolution Upscaler Plus.
LG's newest Magic Remote allows the user to navigate the Ultra HD TV's smart onscreen interface using gestures and voice recognition. The company's Smart TV ecosystem now includes approximately 1,400 apps and access to a collection of premium content services, such as 3D World and Game World. SmartShare Plus connects users to even more media and entertainment options. This feature set offers a range of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi), which enable content to be transferred from compatible portable devices such as laptops, mobile phones, tablets and other devices.
LG has equipped its Ultra HD TVs with CINEMA 3D technology. 3D Depth Control allows viewers to fine-tune the perceived distance between objects on the screen for a customizable 3D experience. 3D Sound Zooming analyzes onscreen objects to generate sound in accordance with their virtual location and movement. In addition, the Dual Play feature allows opponents playing multiplayer games to simultaneously see different images on the same screen effectively making split-screen gaming a thing of the past.
LG's Ultra HD TV also features a 2.2 Sound System consisting of two 10W speakers and two 15W woofers.
At CES 2013, LG will showcase the vibrant neo-pop artwork of Romero Britto on its stunning lineup of Ultra HD TVs in the Ultra HD Gallery Zone. Consistent with LG's Life's Good motto, Britto's uplifting paintings are visual expressions of pure happiness and hope for humanity.
The Ultra HD Content Zone will show CES visitors just how serious LG is about securing top quality, next- generation "4K" content. The company has already formed a 4K content agreement with Korea's top broadcaster, KBS (Korea Broadcasting System) and is actively initiating relationships with other global content providers.
In addition, LG will introduce its 2013 collection of IPS monitors, featuring new concepts such as UltraWide, ColorPrime and Touch 10
All three models, which will be unveiled at next week's 2013 International CES, employ LG's IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology .
LG's EA93 UltraWide monitor boasts a 21:9 aspect ratio. With a class screen size of 29 inches (29.0 inches diagonal), it offers an expansive display with multitasking and multimedia capabilitiess. It is also equipped with LG's thin-bezel CINEMA SCREEN Design.
When superior multitasking is needed, the 4-Screen Split feature divides the UltraWide's screen into four sections. Instead of having to manually resize and position each open window, a few simple mouse clicks enable the user to quickly arrange programs into a variety of useful configurations. The Dual-Link Up function can connect the monitor to two external devices (e.g. notebooks, smartphones, PCs, cameras or external hard drives) simultaneously. Graphic designers may also find the monitor's 100 percent sRGB color space expression and support for color calibration helpful.
The ET83 Touch 10 monitor's ten-point touch capability has been designed for Windows 8 users. Conventional touch screens offer two-finger dragging, scrolling and pinching, whereas LG's 23-inch class (23.0 inches diagonal) Touch 10 monitor allows the user to use all ten fingers simultaneously.
Full touch interaction is available as soon as the monitor is connected, with no extra software installation required.
The EA83 ColorPrime is a monitor solution for filmmakers, photographers and designers. The monitor boasts a Wide Quad High Definition (WQHD) resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). It also accurately reproduces a wide color palette that represents 100 percent of sRGB and 99 percent of the Adobe RGB.
To further enhance colors with the upmost accuracy, LG's ColorPrime offers a hardware calibrator as well as the advanced True Color Pro calibration software. The monitor can also be rotated up to 90 degrees.
