LG Teases With G6 Debut at MWC
LG Electronics will launch its upcoming flagship smartphone - the G6 - at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February, focusing on improving its user experience with the world's first 18:9 screen aspect ratio.
The Seoul-based electronics firm confirmed the new handset will be introduced on Feb. 26 in Barcelona, Spain, a day before the beginning of the world's largest mobile show.
Under the theme of "See More, Play More," the new model is expected to come with enhanced camera and audio functions, with the company hyping up the user-friendly screen ratio and 564 pixels per inch (PPI) display.
In a statement, LG noted the G6 comes with a special "heating pipe" cooling system, in what the firm says is a move to drastically improve hardware safety.
"We have focused on improving basic functions such as audio, camera and user interface for the new device, rather than pushing for eye-catching or experimental features," said an LG Electronics spokesman.
The company will also adopt an on-demand warranty service by equipping the device with artificial intelligence (AI) functionality, enabling faster and more precise smartphone repairs.
LG's flagship phone will also feature the Google Assistant, an
AI-powered voice assistant service that enables its user to make calls, play music, check weather information and search webs with simple voice commands even when the screen power is off. Powered by machine learning functions, the service will suggest the best options for restaurants and menus after considering users' favorite locations and menus when the user searches for dining out places.
LG Electronics is expected to gain a spotlight at the upcoming mobile tradeshow, since rival Samsung Electronics is not likely to launch its new flagship Galaxy series there.
