MediaTek to Showcase New 800 5G SoC at CES 2020
MediaTek will unveil at the upcoming CES 2020 its second sub-6 GHz 5G SoC, codenamed Dimensity 800, and will start delivering the chips in the second quarter of the year.
The company's second 5G system-on-chip (SoC) is targeting mid to high-tier smartphones to accelerate the adoption of 5G technology worldwide.
Last moth, MediaTek unveiled its first 5G SoC, named Dimensity 1000, designed for premium 5G smartphones. Qualcomm followed with the announcement of with its own SoC a week later.
Dimensity 1000 boasts the world’s fastest and most energy-efficient 5G SoC supporting the sub-6 gigahertz (GHz) band, Madiatek said.
MediaTek’s second 5G SoC aims to take on Qualcomm’s first 5G SoC, the Snapdragon 765 family, the Taiwanese chip designer said in a media briefing in Taipei.
Mediatek plans to launch its first 5G chips supporting millimeter-wave (mmWave) technology in the second half of next year.
