Plextor just released the PXL611U, an external DVD writer in Europe. The PXL611U is an external DVD writer that writes DVD±R at 8X, DVD±R DL at 6X, DVD+RW at 8X and DVD-RW at 6X. And with LightScribe direct disc labeling, users can burn customized labels on any LightScribe compatible discs.

The device weighs a mere 350 grams (0.77 pounds), and its dimensions are only 137mm (5.39 inch) long by 137mm (5.39 inch) wide, and just 22mm (0.86 inch) thick. Further convenience is provided through the use of a single USB port and battery combination to power the unit eliminating the need to carry an AC adapter for the drive.

The drive's software bundle includes PlexUtilities, an application with multiple uses such as testing and quality measurement of user written or pressed media, advanced drive and disc information, control and fine-tuning of the drive. NERO 9 Essentials is also bundled to include applications for DVD burning, CD burning and media playback.

The PX-L611U is available in Europe from January for an estimated price of €59. This product falls under Plextors 'Fast Warranty Service', which implies 2 year onsite warranty in the EU, Norway and Switzerland (and 1 year carry-in in other countries).
