Primera and TDK announced the world's first inkjet printable Blu-ray Disc at NAB 2006

Primera Technology announced the introduction of the world's first inkjet printable BD-R Blu-ray Disc media. Using a DVD/CD compatible inkjet printer, users can print custom text and graphics directly on each disc's label-side surface. The discs, which incorporate TDK's advanced DURABIS 2 hard coating technology, are on display at Primera booth #SL1233 and TDK booth #C10741 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show, which is taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 24-27, 2006. Primera and TDK have partnered to optimize TDK's printable surface BD-R media for use with Primera's world renowned line of inkjet BD-R disc publishing and duplication products.

"Composed of copper and silicon, TDK's exclusive recording material delivers remarkable, long-lasting performance," stated Bruce Youmans, TDK Vice President of Marketing. "We see many applications that will benefit immensely from its long life and massive data capacity. Being able to print direct-to-disc with Primera's disc publishing equipment allows the media to be used in many new and exciting applications."

"Primera is pleased to partner with TDK to bring the first inkjet printable BD-R to market," said Mark D. Strobel, Primera Technology's vice president of sales and marketing. "TDK BD-R is the perfect solution for our customers who will be using high-capacity BD-R media for backup and archival, data storage, high-definition video and a host of other cutting-edge applications."

TDK and Primera will offer single-layer BD-R 25GB (write-once type) Inkjet Printable Blu-ray Discs in third quarter of 2006. Also the companies will introduce dual-layer BD-R 50GB Inkjet Printable Blu-ray Discs during the same time. Both versions will offer the highest compatibility with Blu-ray drives and recorders/players. The Inkjet Printable Blu-ray Discs will be available at www.tdk.com/professional as well as www.primerastore.com, with pricing soon to be announced.

Professional Quality Surface Printing

TDK Inkjet Printable BD-R has been optimized for use with Primera Technology's range of BD-R disc publishing and duplication products including the award-winning Bravo(TM) II, BravoPro(TM) and Bravo(TM) XR Disc Publishers as well as the Signature Z6 CD/DVD Printer. TDK BD-R media has true WORM (Write Once Read Many) characteristics, making it ideal for backup use in regulatory and compliance applications such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and SEC 17-a.

The media is coated with a special inkjet-optimized surface that not only delivers extremely bright, high-resolution full color images and text, but also prevents warping a potential problem with standard inkjet surfaces. The printable surface extends from the outside edge of the media all the way to the center hub for a fully produced highly professional appearance.

Robust Durability, Superior Reliability

Hard coating technology pioneered by TDK is part of the Blu-ray specification, but only TDK Blu-ray Discs have DURABIS 2, the industry's most advanced hard coating technology. DURABIS 2 gives the discs superior resistance to scratches and fingerprints, offering unparalleled durability and reliability.
