- Writing Performance

The RICOH MP5316DA supports DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW writing. The maximum supported speed for DVD±R is 16X CAV and 4X CLV for DVD±RW media. You can see the full range of supported speeds on the first page of this review. Nero Burning Rom's reported speeds are shown below.

• DVD+R media @ 8X ZCLV

• DVD+R media @ 12X ZCLV

• DVD+R media @ 16X CAV

• DVD-R media @ 16X CAV

• DVD-R media




As you can see, there are not that many DVD-R media that could be burned at 16X, and only one (TDK) is 16X certified.





• DVD+R media







There are not many DVD+R media that could be burned at the maximum 16X speed.Out of the 16X certified media, Verbatim and the TDK media were burned at their maximum speed. The Philips 16X media would not burn at more than 8x, and CMC 16X media no more than 4X!!



- DVD Overburning Tests

Using Nero CD-DVD Speed, we tested if the RICOH MP5316DA can overburn using DVD+R and DVD-R media. The drive does not support overburning, giving the following error with all inserted media.
