Samsung Announces Curved OLED TV

Samsung Announces Curved OLED TV

Consumer Electronics Jun 27,2013 0

Samsung Electronics' first curved OLED TV will retail in Korea for about $13,000 price tag, the the same price as rival LG Electronics. Samsung announced the availability of its Curved OLED TV at an event held in Seocho, Seoul.

OLED panels consist of thousands of self-emitting diodes that deliver richer and brighter images compared to current TVs. However these require complex production methods. Samsung aims to eliminate the potential for defective pixels, delivering flawless picture quality on the Curved OLED TV.

The design of the Curved OLED TV is inspired by a 'Timeless Arena' which the display is placed within a luxurious frame whose curved shape mirrors the curvature of an arena. Because of this, the panel keeps the distance between the viewer and TV screen the same from almost any angle.

The Curved OLED TV offers exclusive features. Multi View in particular allows viewers to watch two different live TV programs simultaneously. This technology is made possible through the rapid response time of the screen and 3D glasses with built-in earphones that deliver separate audio to each viewer.

Samsung?s Curved OLED TV is also compatible with the Evolution Kit ensuring that the TV is future-proofed and updates allowing the viewer to enjoy the benefits of the latest features that Samsung has to offer.

At the event, Samsung also unveiled its 55- and 65-inch F9000 UHD TV, which boasts picture quality four times the resolution of Full HD TV. Samsung has developed its own four-stage picture quality processing called the 'Quadmatic Picture Engine'. This optimizes the signal, minimizes noise, incorporates UHD up-scaling and enhances picture quality.

Samsung Curved OLED TV is now available in Korea at major outlets retailing for KRW 15 million. Samsung will also begin selling its curved OLED television outside South Korea from July.

LG, which currently offers both curved and non-curved 55-inch screens, is estimated to have only sold a few hundred screens so far after starting sales earlier this year.
