Samsung Buys Dataplex SSD Caching Software Maker NVELO
Samsung has acquired privately held NVELO, Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based vendor of products for caching data on flash-based SSDs.
Nvelo's Dataplex software is designed for caching data in SSDs to improve the speed of retrieval in devices that use either HDDs or SSDs for their main storage. The technology can identify the data that the user needs most often and place that in the cache. That data also remains in the main storage. We have seen the Dataplex software in action it some SSD cache solutions by OCZ Technology, Corsair and Crucial, which sell Dataplex bundled with their products.
"The acquisition of NVELO will enable us to extend our ability to provide SSD related storage solutions to customers. We are pleased with this transaction as the employees of NVELO share our vision to take SSD storage into the next-generation of performance and reliability," said Young-Hyun Jun, executive vice president of Flash product & technology, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics.
The acquisition involves all technology and personnel under NVELO, Inc. Further details of the agreement were not disclosed.
