Samsung introduces new DVD recorders

Samsung introduces new DVD recorders

General Interest Jan 23,2004 0

Samsung introduces three new DVD Recorders, the DVD-R100, DVD-VR300 and the DVD-HD800. All three drives support the DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R recording formats. DVD-RAM is the most versatile recording format available to DVDs and can adapt to -RW for playback on older units. Its non-contact optical pick-up ensures that each disc is scratch-free for repeated use. It also allows for a mixed storage of video, audio, and other types of data from both the PC and AV worlds. It's non-linear characteristics enable unique features, like time-shifting and time-warping. This means the user can start watching a program from the beginning while the end is being recorded. In addition, Samsung supports both DVD-RW and DVD-R, ensuring the broadest DVD forum-backed compatibility available in the market.

The DVD-R100 is Samsung's entry model for the category, offering plenty of power in a 'Slim Design,' 69mm package. It supports all three recording formats (RAM/-RW/-R) and offers a 'Time Shift' function on the DVD-RAM. Simultaneous recording and playback is available as well as live picture 'Pause and Replay'. Its 'One-Touch' and timer recording options offer extra convenience and sound quality is addressed with Digital Noise Reduction. With its 480p progressive scan video output, Samsung has ensured that users with a compatible digital television monitor can view pristine, flicker-free images.

The DVD-VR300 is a unique VHS-DVD Multi-Recording device that has the ability to record between digital disc and videotape media. Consumers can now finally convert their priceless home VHS collections into disc media for easy playback in the pervasive DVD format. Users also have the option of recording straight from the television in either format as well as being able to record from VHS to DVD and vice versa with the convenience of one easy-to-use machine.

Rounding out the lineup is the DVD-HR800. The robust 120 GB internal hard disk drive lets users record up to 160 hours of programming. In addition to progressive scan playback and a super-slim (79mm) form factor, the DVD-HR800 utilizes 6-in-2 Multi-Flash memory card slots. It can playback JPEG and MP3 files with Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital Card, Smart Media Card, Compact Flash Card and Micro Drive. It also takes advantage of Gemstar's Electronic Programming Guide, enabling the user to easily select and record any program without reserving the recording or inputting the program code.

All three units also support audio playback for an array of popular disc music formats, including CD, MP3 and CD-R/RW. In addition, the players have the ability to play back JPEG CDs and Picture CDs for on-screen viewing of digital photos. Front-panel audio-video inputs offer easy access for connecting external devices and all have analog and digital DV (FireWire) inputs accessible from the front panel.

The DVD-R100 will be available in April 2004 for an MSRP of $449.99; the DVD-VR300 will be available in April 2004 for an MSRP of $549.99 and the DVD-HR800 will be available in August 2004 for an MSRP of $649.99.
