Sharp Showcases High-resolution IGZO Displays at CEATEC

Sharp Showcases High-resolution IGZO Displays at CEATEC

Smartphones Oct 2,2012 0

Sharp has on display its latest tablet displays based on its IGZO technology at the CEATEC electronics show in Japan. IGZO oxide semiconductors enables Sharp to produce LCDs with smaller thin-film transistors and increased pixel transparency, thus allowing for lower energy consumption.

The Japanese manufacturer is showing tablet displays in 7-inch (1,240 x 800 / 217ppi,) 10-inch (2,560 x 1,600 / 299ppi,) and 13-inch (2,560 x 1,440 / 221ppi) form factors. The new screens could find their way to future Apple products, such as the rumored smaller version of iPad tablet.

Sharp has also on display a larger 32-inch IGZO LCD (3,840 x 2,160) prototype, which could be used as an interactive touch panel display or gaming devices.

Sharp is also showing new high-definition LCD screens for smartphones, which display at 443 ppi on a 5-inch display, about 1.3 times the picture density of current versions.

At Sharp's booth at CEATEC visitors can also see the new "Moth Eye" technology fot TVs. The technology helps screens show no glare and almost no reflection. It uses nanostructures developed from the eyes of moths, and can be cheaply printed onto LCD panels and other displays.

CEATEC runs Tuesday through Thursday at Maukuhari, just outside of Tokyo.
