We usually apply hacked firmware versions for several drives to boost their performance. With this firmware release, SONY practically offers officially what we usually get "unofficially". We were happy to see that SONY is always trying to improve their drives, and add more features to drives that are already on the market. 4X double layer writing and 12X DVD-R writing support is a great addition to this new firmware, released by SONY.

On the other hand, DVD-R writing quality can be further improved. Double layer media was written successfully at 4X and reported very good quality results. According to these results, this new firmware release is suggested for all owners of the DRU-710A burner.
