TDK and Optibase introduce MPEG-4-based streaming server software
"...TDK and Optibase announced today that they have developed a streaming server based on the MPEG-4 ISO international multimedia standard. This project was launched as the first step in a development alliance, formed in July of 1999, between the two companies in the field of Internet-based applications built on MPEG-4 technology. Targeted at the broadband Internet and multimedia cellular telephone markets, the server is designed to provide a fully-defined multimedia streaming MPEG-4-based platform that allows the distribution of multi-object multimedia scenes over networks for use with PCs, PDAs, and set-top boxes.
The convergence of Internet and broadcast media has introduced a new form of customized content, turning end-users from passive content consumers to active ones.
