Toshiba announces new DVD/CD-RW combo recorders
Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD) today announced performance upgrades for its popular desktop combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive as well as its super-slim CD-R/RW drive for mobile computer systems. The SD-R1202 combination drive, ideally suited for integration in or as an upgrade to desktop PCs, increases PC functionality with the faster speeds for file sharing, CD writing and DVD playback. The new combination drive provides maximum write speeds of 16x for CD-R and 10x for CD-RW, with maximum read speeds of 12x for DVD-ROM and 40x for CD-ROM.
Toshiba also has upgraded one of its newest slim-line family members, a mobile CD-RW offering. The new SR-C8102 CD-R/RW drive weighs only 197g, measures 12.7mm high and achieves a maximum 16x write speed for CD-R -- the highest rate yet achieved in a super-slim CD-R/RW drive. The drive offers a maximum 10x write speed for CD-RW and a maximum 24x read speed for CD-ROM. Toshiba will begin shipping the SD-R1202 desktop combination drive in mid-November and the SR-C8102 slim-line CD-R/RW drive in mid-December.
