Toshiba today unveiled a new storage service, Storage Place, which provides users with both cloud and local storage capabilities in a single offering. Designed to provide mobile access anytime, anywhere and the ability to share files with any Internet-connected device without requiring data uploads to a cloud environment, Storage Place is the first storage service that doesn’t rely solely on the cloud to provide secure and private file sharing that works across devices.

Storage Place enables peer-to-peer file access and supports multiple device installations for remote access. Just download the Storage Place app to your desktop, and then the Storage Place mobile app to your mobile devices.By tapping your Storage Place icon, you get get instant remote access to anything on your desktop from your mobile devices. The service works with any device including iOS, Android and Windows 8, and Toshiba is offering all users 10GB of free cloud storage.

Additionally, Storage Place permits large file linking and sharing with recipients beyond the Storage Place network, removing the need for a Storage Place account to view and download content from other Storage Place users.

Available now, new users of Storage Place will receive 10GB of free, trial cloud storage for a 30-day time period. After the trial period, users can subscribe to the service for $39.99 per year.
