Toshiba Unveils New Enterprise Product Lineup, Cloud Service
Toshiba today announced its redesigned line of thin-and-light
business laptops for mobile professionals - the 13.3-inch Portégé Z30, 14-inch Tecra Z40 and 15.6-inch Tecra Z50.
The company also announced its first mobile workstation, the Tecra
W50 and the Portégé R30 laptop.
The Z30, Tecra Z40 and Tecra Z50 laptops are built with magnesium alloy Tough Body chassis, which adds durability while remaining extremely light. The the Portégé Z30 stands at a slim 0.7 inches thin, weighing a mere 2.6 pounds, the Tecra Z40 measures 0.8 inches thin and 3.2 pounds and the Tecra Z50 measures 0.8 inches thin and weighs 3.9 pounds.
The laptops feature spill-resistant, full-size LED-backlit keyboards and include the Dual Point pointing system, giving users the choice between using the touchpad or Accupoint. Toshiba's EasyGuard technology is also included to help safeguard the laptops.
Configurable with 4th generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 U processors with vPro technology, the new Portégé Z30, Tecra Z40 and Tecra Z50 include a secure and manageable "built-for-business" platform. Trusted Platform Module (TPM), a Fingerprint Reader and optional SmartCard technology provide the extra security IT departments require.
The Portégé Z30 Ultrabook can be configured with a 128GB or 256GB SSD and the Tecra Line can be configured with a wide range of hard drives up to 750GB and solid state drives up to 512GB along with up to 16GB RAM. The Tecra Z40 and Z50 feature optional NVIDIA GeForce 730M discrete graphics with NVIDIA Optimus technology.
The Portégé Z30 features a 13.3-inch diagonal HD display, the Tecra Z40 can be configured with either a 14-inch diagonal HD or HD+ display, and the Tecra Z50 features a 15.6-inch diagonal HD display. Pre-installed with Windows 7 Professional, the new laptops also come with Windows 8 Pro upgrade option.

The Portégé Z30 and the Tecra Z40 will be available for purchase on October 18, 2013, starting at $1,279 MSRP and $1,229 MSRP, respectively. The Tecra Z50 will be available at the end of November, 2013, starting at $1,229 MSRP.

Available ports include three USB 3.0 ports plus a full-size HDMI, media card reader and LAN port.
The Portégé R30 will be available at the end of November 2013.

It is powered by a 4th generation Intel Core i7 quad-core processor and NVIDIA Quadro graphics. It features four memory slots configurable up to 32GB and boosts professional graphics capabilities with dedicated NVIDIA Quadro K2100M graphics and 2GB of GDDR5 memory.
Built-in Intel vPro technology provides the manageability today's enterprises need. Additional security options for the IT environment include a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), a Fingerprint Reader and optional SmartCard technology. The Trusted Platform Module offers high-level data encryption and Toshiba's built in Computrace software aids recovery in case of theft.
Sharing and syncing is enabled through a full range of ports: dual USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port, plus a media card reader, eSATA/USB combo, HDMI, PCIe and VGA ports. Gigabit LAN and an optional mini serial port extend functionality even further.
The Tecra W50 will be available on October 18, 2013, starting at $1,999 MSRP8.
Toshiba's First cloud service
Toshiba also on Monday announced its first cloud offering, which will allow users to customize the remote hardware being used to host the virtual desktop and storage service.
Users will be able to configure a remote desktop's processor, storage capacity and memory, which will determine the response time of applications and performance of the service, the company said on Monday.
The remote desktop can be accessed through a browser on PCs, smartphones and tablets.
The built-to-order feature allows users to determine the quality of service they get from the hosted offering. The quality of service will also depend on the speed of the connection between the device and the data center where the remote desktop is being hosted. Toshiba has built two data centers in the U.S. The company will also help establish a dedicated line or virtual private network between the cloud service and device.
The price of a remote desktop starts at US$50 per month. The cloud service, and it will be launched in the U.S later in the fourth quarter.
