NEC's Decoder LSI Supports Both NTSC and PAL Formats

NEC's Decoder LSI Supports Both NTSC and PAL Formats

Consumer Electronics Aug 24,2005 0

NEC Electronics has released the "μPD64015A," a video decoder LSI able to convert both NTSC and PAL format analog video signals to YUV or YCbCr format digital signals, and to carry out three-dimensional (3D) Y/C separation in both formats. The company insists the full-support of these key analog television signals will boost efficiency in development and production. "This LSI liberates video manufacturers from changing design by area, to which the product is shipped," boasts a company's spokesperson. NEC Electronics expects the LSI to be used in thin-panel TVs, HDD recorders, DVD recorders and the like.

The latest product is a successor to the μPD64012 video decoder LSI released in June 2004. The μPD64012 could also convert both NTSC and PAL format analog video signals to YUV or YCbCr format digital signals, but 3D Y/C separation was only available in the NTSC format.

The latest product also features analog output and video test signal output capabilities. The analog output capability enables CRT-based TVs to use this LSI. The test signal output capability is used to test if the end product can render images properly during the manufacturing process. The company explained additional test signal generators will be no longer needed, if this LSI is used.
