Iomega Announces Availability of New Iomega REV Loader 560

Iomega Announces Availability of New Iomega REV Loader 560

PC components Oct 11,2006 0

Iomega's second generation desktop autoloader based on hard drive technology delivers 560 gigabytes of automated, removable backup capability for small business servers. Incorporating standard hard drive components and removable technology created by Iomega, the new REV Loader 560 provides access to 560GB of native storage (or 1.12TB of compressed capacity) by managing up to eight removable 70GB REV disks in a compact desktop form factor less than 7 inches tall and 5 inches wide. The REV Loader 560 connects to a server through a standard USB 2.0 interface. Iomega has created a total backup and archive solution for small businesses by bundling with each REV Loader 560 a license for CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows (r11.5), including support for disaster recovery.

The REV Loader 560 is faster than tape-based automation devices, delivering up to 30MB/sec data transfer rates with random access capability, which is up to 10 times faster than many tape alternatives such as DAT-72.

With the addition of the new REV Loader 560, Iomega now offers small businesses and others a complete family of REV products that utilize both REV 35GB disks and the new REV 70GB disks, including stand alone internal and external REV drives available in a selection of computer interfaces (external USB 2.0, FireWire, internal SCSI, ATAPI and SATA interfaces). The REV Loader 560 is backward compatible with REV 35GB disks, meaning the REV Loader 560 can read and write to REV 35GB disks.

REV disks combine the speed and reliability of a hard drive with the removability of tape. REV disks provide an estimated archival life of 30 years and are highly portable (0.4 inches x 3.0 inches x 2.8 inches), the company claims.

Automatic backup verification ensures the integrity of data backups, and file restores from any disk are completely automatic-no need to manually locate the "correct" disk. And archive capacity can be increased as business needs warrant with additional REV disks.

The Iomega REV Loader 560 desktop autoloader is now available worldwide at a street price of around $1,600. Iomega REV 70GB disks are available for $69.00 each or in four-packs for $249.99. The device comes with a worldwide three-year warranty. All REV disks are warranted for 5 years.
