Samsung 1GB Multimedia SIM Card For Mobiles
Samsung today announced the introduction of a 1 Gigabyte (GB) subscriber identity module card solution, S-SIMTM.
The 1 Gigabyte S-SIM card will be demonstrated at booth 3C 029 at Cartes 2006.
The subscriber identity module (SIM) card is a smart card IC-based card used to identify users in GSM mobile environments. As multimedia features increase on hand-phones, high data capacity and high-speed transmission has been added to the encrypted SIM solution.
Instead of carrying a separate memory card, Samsung's 1GB S-SIM incorporates a system-in-package (SiP) technology to carry high gigabit-density NAND flash memory without growing the area size of the conventional SIM card. The small form factor supports the compact size of multimedia phones.
The added memory on the security tight SIM solution improves the user experience. Data intensive files such as multimedia messaging, email, digital photos and video, music files and online gaming are among the features now capable with this SIM solution.
Samsung's new S-SIM is based on SIM interface to ensure compatibility with conventional systems and supports high-speed MultiMediaCard and USB interface for faster transmission of larger data volumes.
After developing 128 Megabyte (MB) S-SIM in 2004, Samsung achieved the industry first giga-level density card, 1GB S-SIM last June. Working with leading Smart Card companies, Samsung displays the 1GB S-SIM solution at Cartes 2006.
Samsung expects the new S-SIM to support the explosive growth of next-generation mobile network services and multimedia content.
