Hulu Introduces Hulu Plus Subscription TV Service

Hulu Introduces Hulu Plus Subscription TV Service

Consumer Electronics Jun 30,2010 0

Hulu today introduced Hulu Plus, a new paid subscription service for watching TV shows and movies on mobile devices, game consoles, television sets and computers. Hulu Plus is an ad-supported subscription product that is incremental and complementary to the existing Hulu service, the company said. For almost all of the current broadcast shows on the Hulu service, Hulu Plus offers the full season. Every single episode of the current season will be available, not just a handful of trailing episodes. Hulu Plus subscriber will also have access to back seasons or full runs of some of TV's greatest shows.

Hulu Plus subscribers will be able to enjoy HD content in 720p high definition, for a monthly subscription of $9.99.

They will be able to watch their favorites through more than just the browser on their Mac or PC. All those who own select Samsung internet-connected TVs and Blu-ray players will be able to download a Hulu Plus application from the Samsung app store and start streaming Hulu Plus directly.

Subscribers will also be able to pull up Hulu Plus on their laptop or via Wi-Fi or 3G on another device: the Apple iPad.

Hulu Plus subscribers will also be able to stream content to theiriPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 or third-generation iPod Touch. The Hulu Plus app on the iPhone streams over 3G and Wi-Fi.

These are the devices shipping with Hulu Plus today. Hulu Plus is also expected to be available in Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 game consoles. According to Microsoft, Hulu Plus will be available for US Xbox LIVE Gold Members only.

Hulu has the backing of some of the most powerful media brands, with Fox owner News Corp, General Electric Co's NBC Universal.

Netflix Inc already runs a subscription service, while Comcast Corp and Time Warner Inc are developing "TV Everywhere," which will allow people to watch shows on demand for free and on any device provided they are already paying customers.
