Orange Book part II Vol2 v1.1: standard for 32x CD-R

General Interest Sep 18,2001 0

Philips plans to release Orange Book part II Vol2 v1.1, that will improved support for recording speeds up to 32x! Philips says that 40x writing speed will come in Q2 of 2002. The main concerns are in such ultra high recording speeds are: a reliable indication of the discs speed capability and b) minimum quality level of discs on the market. Philips believes that "...Conventional power calibration is limited in writing speed due to the PCA location at the inner diameter of the disc. For 24x or higher writing speeds, extrapolation is needed. PCA2 at outer diameter of the disc enables power calibration at high writing speeds such as 24x, 32x or higher. Use of PCA2 is optional for the drive. No compatibility problems with legacy drives are expected. No additional requirements on media specs are needed.PCA2 provides a tool for improved margins in high speed CD-R..."
