Sanyo Electric Japan announces collaboration with NEC for optical storage devices

General Interest Oct 4,2002 0

SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (head office : Moriguchi-shi, Osaka, representative director president : Yukinori Kuwano) builts the PDM (Product Data Management) systemm, which realizes improvement in design/development efficiency of the optical pickups used by DVD, CD-R/RW, etc... in collaboration with NEC Corp. (head office : Minato-ku, Tokyo, the representative director president : Koji Nishigaki). The following translation comes from Japanese text, so there will be grammatical errors :(

"...This system realizes work flow-ization of creation, recognition, change, distribution, and abandonment of a part table or a related document while processing electronically and managing related documents, such as product composition information (part table), such as an optical pickup and an optical disk drive, and a drawing, specifications, a design notice. Since the operation start in August, last year, the expansion of a use user has been aimed at and the real time information share which utilized this system in the production base in not only domestic but South Korea or China is built now.

SANYO Electric, by utilizing the 3-dimensional CAD in this system and a product design, and analysis technology, promoted concurrent engineering of a design and development, and shortened the newly developed period of a product for three months, and also realized improvement in the product quality in a design stage.

The PDM system "Obbligato II (OBURIGATO II)" of NEC is used for this system, and the main features are as follows.

- Workflow-ization of creation, recognition, change, etc. of the document relevant to a design is realized.
- From the data of product, such as an optical pickup and an optical disk drive, or part, documents, such as related plan side, specifications, design notice, etc., can be searched and perused easily. Moreover, conventionally, start, change, recognition, etc. of the design notified in paper were processed electronically, and workflow-ization is realized. These have realized the increase in efficiency of the business in connection with development and a design.
- China, South Korea, etc. are included -- global and an information share on real time are realized

A plan side, specifications, etc. can be referred to through intranet. Moreover, since design change is begun and contents change of each document is reflected in real time, the quick and exact information share which utilized this system also in the production base in not only domestic but China or South Korea has been realized.

SANYO Electric develops and sales optical pickups, which is a key device for playing and recording optical discs, such as CD-R/RW and DVD, the optical disk drive which utilized it are performed. In the optical pickup field, for [ for the record/reproduction ] PC peripherals, the object for general audios, etc. Especially performed 110 million-piece (actual result in 2001 fiscal year) production per year, and the status of industry top class is established.
