Pioneer's ADAS Camera Drive Recorder Detects Driver's Fatigue

Pioneer's ADAS Camera Drive Recorder Detects Driver's Fatigue

Enterprise & IT Mar 28,2019 0

Pioneer has developed a connected dual camera drive recorder designed to drowsiness and driver distraction.

Planned introduction in April into Japan, the camera monitors the state of the driver in real-time and provides assistance for safer driving.

Using infra red sensors and AI-based algorithms, metrics such as eyelid opening and closing times, blink frequency and face inclination are detected to determine drowsiness in real-time and issue alerts.

The camera uses the driver monitoring software from Jungo Connectivity Ltd. In the future, the feature set will be upgraded to include personal authentication and other functions.

In addition, the system alerts the driver when the car in front in the same lane gets too close, and when the car has veered to one side of the lane.

The risk of an accident is calculated in real-time based on various data including digital maps, probe data, accident-prone spots and weather as well as driver tendencies.

The camera is part of Pioneer's Intelligent Pilot system, a driving assistance solution designed to support safer driving through the use of its digital map-based accident risk prediction platform and connected IoT devices.
