The fire should significantly affect HLDS? ability to deliver fourth-quarter orders for optical disc drives (ODDs), a traditional peak-sale period. As a result, Taiwan ODD makers may receive unexpected orders since major OEMs, such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP), will transfer orders from HLDS, Taiwan ODD makers indicated.
HLDS' Huizhou factory is part of an LG Electronics' plant. The plant was completed two months ago and consists of a few 3-story buildings that occupy an area of 20,000 square meters. Although the details of the damage caused by the fire are not yet available, most of the products and equipment inside the factory buildings were destroyed, according to local newspapers.
