Apple sent out invitations for a media event in San Francisco on March 9, about one month before the much-anticipated launch of the new Apple Watch. The company did not specify what the event will be about in the invitation which reads simply "Spring Forward," a word play on the resetting of watches for daylight saving time.

Chief Executive Tim Cook said last month that the company plans to launch the smartwatch in April.and will start at $349 in the US for the aluminum-and-glass Apple Watch Sport. The midlevel stainless-steel Apple Watch -- with its sapphire crystal-covered display -- is bound to cost significantly more, while the 18-karat-gold Apple Watch Edition could climb to price levels associated with fine jewelry.

In an interview with the UK’s Telegraph newspaper, Tim Cook said that people will soon find lots of uses for the Apple Watch.

"This will be just like the iPhone: people wanted it and bought for a particular reason, perhaps for browsing, but then found out that they loved it for all sorts of other reasons," he said.

Among those reasons, he said, would be to replace your car keyfob, suggesting that deals withcar makers could be expected for NFC or Bluetooth unlocking of your car.

"The watch is designed to be able to replace car keys and the clumsy, large fobs that are now used by many vehicles," Cook told The Telegraph.

Cook added that the Apple Watch would gently tap our wrists once an hour to remind us to move, but also hinted at 'rewards' for exercising.

"Even more intriguingly, the Watch will operate a special rewards system: users will get credits if they exercise enough. They will also be encouraged to increase their metabolic targets if they meet their exercise targets consistently," he said.

Cook added that the watch would allow "filtering" of messages.

"It will make it much easier to prioritise, spot and react to urgent messages, such as a family emergency. These notifications will be much easier to deal with via one’s wrist than through an iPhone, especially in meetings."

It is not clear whether Apple will reveal anything else new during the event, besides the Watch.

Rumor had it that Apple had a larger iPad in the works, but with demand so high for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple's suppliers just didn't have the bandwidth to produce that product. Could we see that product now?

Others may ve waiting for an update in the MacBook Air with a Retina Display.

A new Apple TV box could be also expected to show up, possibly with new gaming elements to its list of features.
