- Possibly the most complete CDR
authoring package |
- No RAW support yet - Some bugs (remember it's only preview version) - Uses more CPU usage than 5.0x builds - Build-in Mpeg1 Encoder needs more work - Interface still needs improvement.. - No verify option in "CD-Copy" tasks |
Ahead again managed to deliver in users a very good and complete product. Nero 5.5 is the best Nero ever since it will almost cover all your burning needs in your daily tasks.
The biggest improvement for Nero 5.5 is maybe the multiple recording support among with the build-in Mpeg1 Encoder/Menu creation features. No other CDR software supports VCD/SVCD Menu creation in such an easy way! Just select the files, background and you are ready to give your VCD/SVCD CDs a new look. The multiple recording engine seems very solid and worked very good even with multiple IDE recorders. The addition of the verification/anti-virus checker is welcomed and will help you check the integrity of your data. The re-designed cover/waver editor will help you design the best cover templates and improve your audio files.
On the other hand the biggest disappointment for Nero 5.5 is the lack of improvements over the CD-Copy engine (adoption of DAO-RAW reading/writing). As it seems Ahead has chosen not to challenge Macrovision and other CD protection companies, yet. Remember that also no competitor (WinOnCD, Ez CD Creator 5.0, Prassi PrimoCD, HotBurn Pro) software supports this feature anyway.
Last we must note that the preview version had some bugs, which possibly will be corrected in the final build. The interface could had more visual changes but Ahead must leave something to improve for the Nero 6.0 :)
