Amazon Announces New Fire HDX, Fire HD Tablets And New Kindles
Amazon today announced the new 6" and 7" Fire HD tablets, the Fire HDX 8.9, the Fire HD Kids Edition as well as the Kindle Voyage and the updated $79 Kindle e-readers. The company also introduced Fire OS 4 "Sangria," the next generation of software and services that powers Amazon's Fire devices.
The new Fire HD is featuring a quad-core processor running at up to 1.5 GHz, front and rear-facing cameras (1080p full HD), an an HD Gorilla Glass display. it will be available in two sizes - 6" (252 ppi ) for $99 and 7" (216 ppi) for $139 - and five color choices: black, white, cobalt, magenta, and citron.
Amazon says that the quad-core processor of the new Fire HD has 3x the graphics performance of the Samsung Tab 4. Other features include Dolby Digital Plus audio, a battery that can delivers up to 8 hours of reading, web browsing, email and calendar support, plus a new pre-loaded WPS Office app lets you create, edit, and view Office documents.
The Fire HD is powered by the new Fire OS 4 "Sangria" software and services.
Sangria, continues Fire OS? content-forward user interface that delivers easy access to books, songs, videos, and games - open them with one tap rather than hunting through folders and apps. Fire OS 4 updates the visual design of the UI and adds Profiles so each family member can have their own individual email, Facebook and Twitter accounts, settings such as display brightness, bookmarks, spot in a movie, and game levels.
Fire OS 4 is based on KitKat and adds features and services to make it faster and easier to use. For example, Fire OS includes ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction) which predicts the movies and TV episodes you'll want to watch and starts them instantly, and Smart Suspend develops a device-specific profile for when the tablet is typically not in use and proactively turns wireless off and on to deliver up to 25% more standby battery life.
Fire OS also integrates with the Amazon cloud to enable cross-platform syncing, and to power services that require more processing than is possible on a mobile device. Examples of new cloud services in Fire OS 4 include Family Library so you can share your apps, games, audiobooks, books, and Prime Instant Video content with other members of your household; Firefly so you can identify and take action on artwork, text, and audio instantly - available for over 100 million items; and free unlimited storage in Cloud Drive for photos taken on Fire devices.
Fire OS 4 will also be available for all 3rd generation Fire tablets via a free, over-the-air software update. It will also be released for the Fire phone early next year.
The new Fire HD is available for pre-order starting today for $99 for 6" and $139 for 7" and will begin shipping in October.
Amazon today also introduced the all-new Fire HDX 8.9, which combines a light design and HDX display with a more powerful processor, Dolby Atmos and the latest Dolby Audio, and the new Fire OS 4 "Sangria" features and services.
The tablet is powered by a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor with a 70% faster graphics engine than the previous generation Fire HDX. Its HDX display has a 339 ppi pixel density - 30% more pixels than iPad's Retina display - and 100% sRGB color accuracy plus Dynamic Light Control, which makes the pages of a book more closely resemble a real piece of paper in different lighting conditions.
Amazon says the Fire HDX 8.9 is 20% lighter and twice as loud as iPad Air, with clear sound and Dolby Atmos. It supports 802.11ac MIMO wireless connectivity, 4G LTE. Other features include a front-facing HD camera; 8MP rear-facing camera that allows for 1080p HD video and includes an LED flash, Electronic Image Stabilization, and a wide-aperture f/2.2 lens. The Camera application also allows users to capture panoramas, lenticulars, and HDR recommended shots, and the film strip gives access to recent photos and videos, along with the ability to view, edit, share, and delete right from the camera.
Its battery is powerdful enough to offer up to 12 hours of reading, surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching videos, and listening to music.

Also Amazon today introduced the 7th generation of Kindle: Kindle Voyage and the new $79 Kindle, with a 20% faster processor, twice the storage, and now with a touch interface.
Kindle Voyage features an all-new design, with a flush glass front and a magnesium back. At 7.6 mm thin and weighing less than 6.4 ounces, Kindle Voyage is the thinnest device Amazon has ever built.
Kindle Voyage uses a new Paperwhite display, with the highest resolution, highest contrast, and highest brightness of any Kindle. Kindle Voyage introduces PagePress, a new way to turn pages. PagePress uses a custom-designed force sensor that sits directly under the bezel. You simply rest your thumb on the bezel and turn the page by lightly pressing. When you turn the page, Kindle Voyage delivers tactile feedback from a haptic actuator. The actuator delivers just enough vibration to let you know you turned the page, but is subtle enough that you won?t be distracted from your reading. You can personalize both the pressure level needed to trigger a page turn and the haptic feedback level.
Kindle Voyage is available with free 3G.
