Crucial X10 2TB Portable SSD
3. Conclusion
Micron and Crucial by using Micron's TLC NAND and single-ASIC portable storage architecture, released the X10 and X10 Pro series to the market, aiming for the enthusiastic users who wish to get a compact Portable SSD with superb performance. The X10 series comes in several capacities from 1TB up to 8TB (!), while the "older" X10 Pro series only comes from 1TB up to 4TB of storage. Price-wise, both the X10 and X10 Pro series are close, however, the X10 is cheaper (as was expected). The X10 has 3 years of warranty and IP65 rate, while the X10 Pro has 5 years of warranty, IP55, and Hardware Encryption.
Both the X10 and X10 Pro have the same dimensions and weight and can be used with almost all currently sold devices that have TypeC connection (PC/MAC/Android/Linux/Playstation systems, cannot be sure about Xbox, even Crucial claims it is). Passing to the performance area, both X10 and X10 Pro Portable SSDs are FAST, even though we feel, the X10 is faster at writing, at least with our setup. Both drives need a USB Gen 3.2 2x2 TypeC port to perform the best, meaning you need to have the latest technology port either in the laptop or the main PC system. Otherwise, both drives will drop connection speed to 10GBit/sec, meaning you will be capped at 1GB/sec max speed. If that's the case, we highly suggest looking for the older X9 Pro model, which had better performance in this mode, than the X10 and X10 Pro models. We did see a writing performance drop with 10GBit/sec from the X10, while the X10 Pro didn't have this. However, with the max 20GBit/sec mode, the X10 drive didn't drop speed. We also noted that the X10 tends to run hotter than the X10 Pro when running similar tasks.
Concluding this review, we found the Crucial X10 2TB Portable SSD, a very good product, provided that you have the correndpong hardware to connect to. Note that both X10/X10 Pro aren't compatible with USB 4.0, and in that case, performance will also drop at 10GBit/sec, so be careful, in that case, you better look for the X9 Pro 2TB model. Comparing both X10/X10 Pro, the X10 Pro has a higher warranty (5 vs 3 years) and hardware encryption, which the X10 doesn't include. Crucial has a great product for the market, and if you are looking for small, portable storage, the X10/X10 Pro models will have you covered.
