Philips introduces "Seamless Link"

Philips introduces "Seamless Link"

General Interest Aug 24,2001 0

Seamless Link is a new accurate and intelligent technology that minimises the effects of buffer-underrun (BUR), a common cause of wasted discs during the CD writing process. Philips will introduce this technology into all future high-speed products, starting with the internal 12x, 16x and 20x drives. The Thermo Balanced Writing technology, which was introduced earlier this year on the Philips 8x speed and higher speed drives, enables intelligent writing and enhances the integrity of data written to any recordable and rewritable disc, minimizing the chances of data retrieval problems or burning ‘bad discs.’ With the combination of Seamless Link and Thermo Balanced Writing, Philips offers a unique combination of technologies that ensure optimal recording for the consumer.

Seamless Link solution, is a BUR management solution that is “on board” the drive and prevents a lost disc when a buffer under run occurs during TAO or DAO writing. Detecting the clues of a imminent BUR ahead of time, Seamless Link pauses the writing in a controlled way, and restarts the writing when the danger of the BUR is gone.

The primary benefits to users are:
- The Philips drive pro actively manages the consequences of a BUR
- The solution allows a greater ability to run other applications simultaneously, for example a HDD defragmentation program, while burning a CD
- Seamless Link backwards compatible for current Philips 12x CD-RW owners!
- Even end-users that already purchased a Philips internal 12x CD-Rewriter can profit from this new technology without having to replace their drive! These Philips 12X CD-RW can be upgraded using the Flash Tool offered on our website..."
