Plextor extends SCSI product family with 40/12/40 CD-RW with Ultra SCSI interface
Plextor® Corp., a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance CD-related equipment and software, today announced the availability of the PlexWriter(TM) 40/12/40S CD-RW drive. Available as an internal 5.25-inch half-height drive or as an external drive, the new PlexWriter connects to computers (PC or Mac) via Ultra SCSI (SCSI-3) interface, which delivers a burst transfer rate of up to 20 MB/sec. The drive is targeted at both professional and non-professional end users who require the highest levels of performance and reliability.
The PlexWriter 40/12/40S features 40X CD-Write, 12X CD-Rewrite, and 40X-max CD-Read. Recording at 40X, the PlexWriter can create a 650MB disc in less than three minutes. A unique combination of features and technologies offers unparalleled recording reliability. BURN-Proof technology prevents buffer underrun errors, so users can multi-task during a recording session. PowerRec(TM) (Plextor Optimized Writing Error Reduction Control) technology is a sophisticated write strategy for stable recording at maximum speeds. Superior 40X digital audio extraction (DAE) eliminates pops, clicks, and hisses for superior sound quality.
"The new PlexWriter 40/12/40S is an ideal CD-RW drive for high-performance applications where speed and reliability are both imperative," said Howard Wing, vice president of sales and marketing for Plextor. "Plextor has received numerous requests for a high-speed SCSI drive from our sizable customer base in the professional audio recording market. These end users know that SCSI is still the most robust interface technology around. The PlexWriter 40/12/40S delivers on exactly what our loyal customers asked for -- high-speed recording with a SCSI interface."
PlexWriter 40/12/40S CD-R/W Drive
The PlexWriter 40/12/40S drive makes installation faster and easier than ever before. Available in both internal and external drive configurations, it is Plug & Play compatible with Windows 98SE/ME/XP, as well as MAC OS 8.6 and MAC OS X. Users can typically begin recording custom CDs within minutes of opening the box.
The versatile 3-in-1 drive reads, writes, and rewrites compact discs at a wide variety of speeds. The drive features a 4MB data buffer and burst data transfer rates of 20 MB/sec synchronous, or 5 MB/sec asynchronous. The PlexWriter 40/12/40S supports a wide variety of CD writing modes, including Track-at-Once, Disc-at-Once, Session-at-Once, Multisession, and variable/fixed packet writing.
The PlexWriter 40/12/40S (internal and external) also features Plextor's unique self-test capability that is offered on every Plextor Hi-Speed drive. This feature allows the Plextor drive to run extensive writes, reads and seeks to verify the correct performance of the drive without host CPU intervention. At the conclusion of the test, users can be assured that the drive and media are working within the specification.
